[6:39]  1 tn Heb “their prayer and their requests for help.”

[6:39]  2 tn Heb “and accomplish their justice.”

[8:13]  3 tn The Hebrew phrase הַסֻּכּוֹת[חַג] (khag hassukot, “[festival of] huts” [or “shelters”]) is traditionally known as the Feast of Tabernacles. The rendering “booths” (cf. NAB, NASB, NRSV) is probably better than the traditional “tabernacles” in light of the meaning of the term סֻכָּה (sukkah, “hut; booth”), but “booths” are frequently associated with trade shows and craft fairs in contemporary American English. The nature of the celebration during this feast as a commemoration of the wanderings of the Israelites after they left Egypt suggests that a translation like “temporary shelters” is more appropriate.

[9:29]  4 tn Heb “As for the rest of the events of Solomon, the former and the latter, are they not written?”

[10:14]  5 tc The Hebrew text reads, “I will make heavy your yoke,” but many medieval Hebrew mss and other ancient textual witnesses have, “my father made heavy your yoke.”

[10:14]  6 tn Heb “but I will add to your yoke.”

[10:14]  7 tn Heb “My father punished you with whips, but I [will punish you] with scorpions.” “Scorpions” might allude to some type of torture, but more likely it refers to a type of whip that inflicts an especially biting, painful wound.

[15:16]  8 tn Heb “mother,” but Hebrew often uses “father” and “mother” for grandparents and even more remote ancestors.

[15:16]  9 tn The Hebrew term גְּבִירָה (gÿvirah) can denote “queen” or “queen mother” depending on the context. Here the latter is indicated, since Maacah was the wife of Rehoboam and mother of Abijah.

[19:2]  10 tn Or “seer.”

[19:2]  11 tn Heb “went out to his face.”

[19:2]  12 tn Heb “and love those who hate the Lord?”

[19:2]  13 tn Heb “and because of this upon you is anger from before the Lord.”

[20:7]  14 tn Heb “did you not drive out?” This is another rhetorical question which expects a positive response; see the note on the word “heaven” in the previous verse.

[20:7]  15 tn Heb “permanently.”

[20:7]  16 tn Or perhaps “your covenantal partner.” See Isa 41:8.

[26:10]  17 tn Heb “Shephelah.”

[26:10]  18 tn Heb “workers and vinedressers in the hills and in Carmel.” The words “he had” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[26:10]  19 tn Heb “for a lover of the ground he [was].”

[29:17]  20 tn Heb “porch of the Lord.”

[33:19]  21 tn Heb “and his prayer and being entreated by him, and all his sin and his unfaithfulness and the places where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself – behold, they are written on the words of his seers.”

[34:3]  22 tn Heb “father.”

[34:3]  23 tn Heb “purifying.”

[35:7]  24 tn Heb “and Josiah supplied for the sons of the people sheep, lambs and sons of goats, the whole for the Passover sacrifices for everyone who was found according to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand cattle. These were from the property of the king.”
